Mechanical edge finder
A mechanical edge finder, also known as an edge finder, consists of two offset cylinders. These are connected inside by a spring. The rotation of the work spindle causes the two cylinders to run eccentrically in relation to each other. The closer the edge finder approaches the edge of the workpiece, the more precisely the two offset cylinders of the edge finder run in relation to each other. If both parts run round in relation to each other, the edge of the workpiece has been reached.
