How long have you been with paulimot and what are your tasks in the company?
I joined paulimot in October 2015. At my previous employer, I worked in wood mechanics and then familiarised myself with the world of our metalworking machines. We also sell four wood band saws, but our focus is on metalworking. I found it quite easy to familiarise myself with the paulimot product range thanks to my technical background. When I started working at paulimot, I spent a lot of time familiarising myself with the individual machines and their details. My tasks in the company include very different activities. One of them is warehouse management. Together with my colleagues Michael and Jermaine, I make sure that all the machines are in the right place and that we can reach them easily as soon as they are ordered by our customers. When machines are ordered, I first pick the ordered accessories and then prepare the machine for dispatch. This also includes cleaning the machines so that our customers receive a product that they can work with immediately. During this process, I also check the functionality and rectify any faults. The machine is then packed and ready for dispatch. This procedure ensures that every machine that leaves our warehouse is fully functional and that the customer receives a flawless product.
What is special about your job as a technician at paulimot?
That's simple: the versatility! I work both in the warehouse and on the machines themselves and help with the technical analysis of various problems. I can test a wide variety of functions on the machines and thus acquire a great deal of knowledge about our machines, which are very individual - not least because our range is very broad with milling and turning machines, metal band saws, machines for sheet metal processing and wood band saws. This knowledge enables me to solve problems more quickly and I am a point of contact for my colleagues, who I can often help with my experience. I also like the responsibility I now have in the company and I am proud of the development I have seen in recent years.
How would you describe the atmosphere in the Technology and Logistics team?
The atmosphere in my team is very good. Everyone is very helpful and nobody turns you away if you have any questions. We work well together and are able to cope with stressful working days as a team. Especially in winter and on Mondays, things are often stressful for us. The Faszination Modellbau trade fair in Friedrichshafen in November kicks off the peak season, which lasts until the end of March. Everyone has to work together to ensure that the machines and parcels can be dispatched on time. And if there are any tensions on a particularly stressful day, they are forgotten the next morning.
You work with our machines every day and take a very close look at them. Do you have a favourite machine from our range?
Since we added the PM5000 to our range, this has been my favourite machine from paulimot. It is our largest lathe and runs extremely smoothly, which I particularly like. I find its technical details remarkable and I personally enjoy working with and on large machines like the PM5000. The machine is also characterised by its high reliability.
You've been with the company for a while now. What has changed since you started in 2015?
The whole company has developed enormously. The order volume has increased and with it the number of employees. We used to dispatch one or two machines a day. Today, up to 50 machines a day leave our warehouse during the week. My colleagues Michael and Jermaine now also support me and together we cover the technical area. The processes in the company have become increasingly streamlined and, for example, ordering spare parts is now much quicker than it was a few years ago. The organisation and planning of work processes has also steadily improved over the course of my time here. However, my attitude to work itself has not changed: I always try to complete my tasks quickly, cleanly and as accurately as possible and to prepare and dispatch our machines in the way that I would like to receive them myself as a customer.
Thank you, Uli, for the interview and the many interesting insights into your day-to-day work at paulimot.
