Intended use
Hallmarks are used in the blacksmith's, goldsmith's, watchmaker's and leatherworking trades, among others. They are used as punches in metal and leatherworking for driving in patterns, symbols, moulds or ornaments. One variant of the hallmark is the ball punch. In conjunction with the cube flank, spherical moulds can be produced on the workpiece.
