Drilling/milling machine F205-V with ball screws and measuring system

Intended use

The F205-V is a router for use in the high-end hobby and semi-professional sector. Due to its versatile application possibilities, this machine is used in functional modelling, individual and small series production or prototype construction. The milling machine is designed for machining steel, cast iron, all non-ferrous metals, aluminium, brass, etc., but can also be used for machining plastics or similar materials that are not hazardous to health or generate dust.

Description of the

The F205-V drilling/milling machine offers a wide range of applications. The machine is driven by a frequency-controlled 3-phase asynchronous three-phase motor. Thanks to its two-stage gearbox, it has two speed ranges (slow and fast), which can be adjusted using a rotary knob. The reduction ratio ensures a high torque at the work spindle even in the low speed range. The spindle speed is infinitely adjustable from 150 to 2,250 rpm. The machine has clockwise and anti-clockwise rotation. The milling head (Z-axis) is moved by handwheel. The machine also has a fine feed, which can only be used to move the quill in the Z direction. For drilling work, the quill is fed via the star grip on the side. The travel of the quill can be read on the digital drilling depth display. The work spindle has an MK2 tool holder. The dovetail guides on the X, Y and Z axes can be adjusted backlash-free by means of wedge strips. The 500 x 180 mm worktable has three T-slots (12 mm / M10) for clamping workpieces or clamping devices. The worktable is adjusted in the X and Y axes using handwheels with vernier. The cross table of the F205-V is equipped with recirculating ball screws for backlash-free and precise movement.

With the ball screw, also known as a ball screw drive, balls inserted into the spindle nut transmit the force between the spindle and nut. As the spindle rotates, these balls move axially in the grooves between the nut and spindle. The balls are returned through channels in the spindle nut, creating a circuit in which the balls circulate around the spindle.

  • The advantages of a recirculating ball screw:
  • Significantly lower friction (rolling friction) compared to conventional trapezoidal spindles (sliding friction)
  • Less wear, therefore longer service life
  • Significantly higher accuracy and freedom from backlash compared to normal lead screws such as trapezoidal spindles
  • Higher travel speeds possible

This milling machine is supplied with a glass scale measuring system already installed. In addition to the versatile functions of a measuring system, this serves to display the actual position of a workpiece or tool in a coordinate system. The display and control unit is equipped with a 7 inch (18 cm) LCD screen and various function keys. The screen is attached to the Z-column of the milling machine via a swivelling arm. There is also a practical tool tray underneath the display unit. The X, Y and Z axes of the machine are equipped with glass scales. The fourth axis of the measuring system can be used for optional accessories, such as a rotary table.
The measuring system is characterised by very extensive functions and display options. Selected functions are shown graphically on the display for better understanding. The position display offers the option of choosing between turning, milling and grinding mode. The languages available are German, English, Spanish, French and Chinese.

  • The following functions are available in milling mode:
  • Inclined contour / surface: Milling of phases or diagonal surfaces
  • Setting any number of holes at an even distance on a straight line (SHL function)
  • Milling a radius or circular arc
  • Representation of a bolt hole circle for evenly spaced holes on a circular arc
  • Determining the centre point between two points
  • The following functions are available in turning mode:
  • Taper turning
  • Tool compensation
  • The traverse path in the X-axis can be displayed either in diameter or in radius.
  • It is possible to display Z and Z0 combined, i.e. the travel of the bed slide and the travel of the top slide are displayed as a total.

The values can be displayed in mm or inches in all operating modes. It is possible to change the sign when displaying the individual axes. The position display has a standby mode. The display brightness, date, time and acoustic signals can be set. A calculator function with memory is also available.

Please note: The specified travel distances may be reduced if the measuring strips are fitted.

The solidly manufactured F400-G drilling/milling machine is driven by a powerful, 2-stage three-phase motor made in Germany with an output power of
600 / 900 watts. The power is transmitted directly to the 6-stage oil-bath gearbox via a plug-in shaft, ensuring no slippage. The F400-G has twelve spindle speeds from 105 to 3,000 rpm, which can be set using two control levers. The height of the milling head is adjusted using the front-mounted hand crank for the Z-axis. For drilling work, the quill stroke is executed via the star grip mounted on the side; for precise infeed in the Z-axis during milling, the machine has an activatable fine feed. The travel of the quill can be read on the digital drilling depth display.
The dovetail guides on the X, Y and Z axes can be adjusted backlash-free using wedge strips. The 740 x 180 mm swivelling worktable has three T-slots (12 mm / M10) for clamping workpieces or clamping devices. The main switch, the switch for clockwise and anti-clockwise rotation, the torque button, the on/off switch, the switch for the motor speed (level 1 and 2) and the emergency stop button are located on the control unit attached to the side of the milling head.
