Intended use
Turning tools with replaceable cutting inserts are characterised by the fact that worn cutting edges can be replaced quickly and easily. This eliminates the need for the tedious and time-consuming task of re-sharpening the cutting edge. A further advantage of turning tools with indexable or interchangeable cutting inserts is that, depending on the material to be machined, the most suitable cutting insert can be fitted to the holder. For example, there are special cutting inserts for machining aluminium or non-ferrous metals. Both the holders and the cutting inserts are standardised and can be identified by their respective standard designations.
