The TSM450-U drum sander is a powerful and robust machine designed for the uniform sanding of wide and long workpieces. Its 1,800-watt main motor drives the sanding drum, fitted with the sanding belt, at a belt speed of 950 m/min. The workpiece is fed in a controlled and uniform manner under the sanding drum via a separate conveyor belt.
The feed rate of the conveyor belt can be continuously adjusted from 0.5 to 4 m/min. This allows the machining process to be adapted to the type of wood, workpiece width, desired surface quality and set stock removal rate. A slower feed rate allows for more intensive machining, whilst a faster feed rate is suitable for lower stock removal rates and longer workpieces.
The worktable height is conveniently adjusted via the side handwheel. An easy-to-read scale facilitates reproducible workpiece thickness settings. In addition, the front-mounted feed indicator provides a guide for the selected removal rate. Depending on the type of wood, workpiece width and feed rate, a maximum feed of up to 2 mm is possible. In practice, for clean sanding results, it is recommended to work with several smaller feeds.
Thanks to the open design, workpieces up to 450 mm wide can be fully processed in a single pass. Wider workpieces are first sanded on one side, then turned over and finished in a second pass. In this way, a maximum workpiece width of 915 mm is possible.
The workpiece height can be up to 115 mm. This makes the machine suitable not only for panels and boards, but also, for example, for laminated timber, frame timbers, chopping boards, solid wood panels and other thicker timber components. The front and rear roller supports are particularly useful when machining longer workpieces.
For safe operation, the TSM450-U is fitted with an easily accessible emergency stop switch and overload protection. The sturdy base ensures stability. Thanks to the integrated, retractable castors, the machine – which weighs around 130 kg – can still be moved around the workshop and then parked securely again.
The 75 mm diameter extraction connection allows connection to a suitable extraction system. The scope of delivery also includes a filter bag and the necessary fixing parts. Effective extraction reduces dust levels whilst ensuring a clean sanding finish.
The pre-installed sanding belt features 80-grit and is suitable for general surface and pre-sanding. To change the belt, open the upper drum cover and attach the 76 mm wide sanding belt in a spiral pattern to the drum.
