Telescopic gauges
Telescopic gauges can be used to take internal measurements. They are also used to determine the inside diameter of bores, bearing seats, groove widths and similar. Telescopic gauges can be used to take measurements in places that are difficult or impossible to reach with conventional measuring tools. With a telescopic gauge, the two measuring probes are first pressed apart by spring pressure. By tightening the knurled nut at the lower end of the gauge, the two probes can be clamped or fixed in place. The internal dimension of the bore is then determined. The actual dimension at both ends of the measuring probes is then determined using a micrometer.
