Intended use
The SIEG SC12 is a lathe designed for use in the high-end hobby and semi-professional sectors. Thanks to its versatility, this machine is used in functional model making, single-unit and small-batch production, or prototype construction. The lathe is designed for machining steel, cast iron, all non-ferrous metals, aluminium, brass, etc., but can also be used for machining plastics or similar materials that do not pose a health hazard or generate dust.

Description of the
The SIEG SC12 is a 230-volt machine with variable speed control. It is delivered already mounted on the base cabinet. This lead and drawbar lathe is driven by a powerful, brushless DC motor with an output power of 1,500 watts. The dynamic control system ensures high torque across all speed ranges. It automatically adjusts to maintain the set speed. The SC12’s speed range is from 100 to 2,000 rpm. It has a centre distance of 1,000 mm and features a very solid machine bed. The large centre distance, the 160 mm chuck with camlock mounting and the swing diameter of 320 mm over the machine bed allow even larger workpieces to be machined. The SC12 offers 15 longitudinal and 15 cross feeds, as well as 15 metric and 10 imperial thread pitches, all of which can be adjusted via the feed gear. A reversing mechanism allows the direction of rotation of the lead screw to be changed independently of the direction of rotation of the chuck. This means that left-hand threads can be produced on this machine. The direction of rotation and speed can be adjusted via the control panel at the touch of a button and using a potentiometer. The speed display, the START and STOP buttons, and the emergency stop button are also located on the control panel.
The glass scale measuring system integrated into the lathe is characterized by a wide range of functions and display options. Selected functions are visualized graphically on the display, which has a diagonal of 18 cm / 7 inches, for enhanced comprehension. The position display allows you to choose between turning, milling or grinding mode. The available languages are German, English, Spanish, French and Chinese.
The following functions are available in rotation mode:
- Taper turning
- Tool compensation
- The travel distance on the X-axis can be displayed either as a diameter or a radius.
- It is possible to display Z and Z0 combined, i.e. the travel distance of the bed slide and the travel distance of the upper slide are displayed as a total.
The following functions are available in milling mode:
- Sloping contour / surface: Milling of chamfers or diagonal surfaces
- Setting any number of drill holes at regular intervals along a straight line (SHL function)
- Milling a radius or circular arc
- Illustration of a bolt circle for evenly spaced holes on a circular arc
- Determining the midpoint between two points
In all operating modes, values can be displayed in mm or inches. It is possible to change the sign when displaying the individual axes. A standby mode can be activated on the position display. The display brightness, the date, the time and acoustic signals can be adjusted. A calculator function with memory is also available.
Please note: The specified travel distances may be reduced due to the installation of the measuring strips.
