Jannis
Jannis, you've been with paulimot since summer 2019. What were your first impressions and how did you settle into the company?
Exactly, I started working at paulimot in June 2019. It was very easy for me to get started, I had the impression right from the start that there was a friendly and collegial relationship between the employees. This applies both to the employees in other teams and to the Technical Sales and Customer Support team, of which I am a member. The flat hierarchies in the company also help to ensure that all colleagues and superiors, in my case my team leader Frank Schlögel, can be treated as equals. Now that I've been with the company for a while, I can say that my first impression has been confirmed.
You just mentioned that you work in the Technical Sales and Customer Support team. What is your exact job title and what are your tasks?
Like my colleagues Alfred, Timo, Michael and Wolfgang, I work as a technical salesperson and support our customers with all technical questions relating to our product range. We discuss all customer enquiries that we receive on a daily basis as a team and divide them up amongst ourselves. More complex cases are often discussed together so that we can provide our customers with satisfactory feedback as quickly as possible. We advise our customers on the phone and by e-mail, as well as in person at our specialist shop in Neu-Ulm. Here I am available from Monday to Friday to provide our customers with help and advice.
Before you joined paulimot, you completed an apprenticeship as an industrial mechanic. How does this training benefit you in your job?
I would say that it helps me a lot! During my training, I was able to acquire a great deal of basic technical knowledge and have already worked practically with all kinds of machines and tools. This makes it easier for me to explain certain things to customers and answer questions about technical problems. I can speak from my own experience and test and check some things directly on our machines on site. Our product range is very diverse, ranging from lathes and milling machines to band saws for wood and metal and all kinds of accessories and tools. Getting an overview and familiarising myself with the technical background of all the products was much easier for me during my training.
You work with many different products from our range every day. What is your favourite product from paulimot so far and why?
First and foremost, of course, I'm a metalworker, I did my apprenticeship in this field and enjoy working with and on our metalworking machines. In my private life, however, I also enjoy and am passionate about woodworking. As already mentioned, we also have four wood band saws in our range here at paulimot, the MJ9, MJ10, MJ12 and MJ14. I am particularly fond of the two larger wood band saws, the MJ12 and the MJ14. When it comes to advising customers, I'm happy to answer any questions about these two products and explain their wide range of functions and options to our customers. I also really like their high-quality workmanship, as the machines are mainly made of metal. So when I'm working with our wood band saws, I can combine my personal interests with my professional ones and share my enthusiasm for woodworking with our customers. And if I can infect a customer with this enthusiasm, I'm even happier.
You have daily contact with our customers in the specialist shop, on the phone and by e-mail. What do you particularly like about dealing with customers?
I generally enjoy helping customers. As a direct contact person, I manage to bring clarity to many a situation. It doesn't matter whether you're talking on the phone, in writing or in person. It often happens that problems that the customer cannot explain can be solved relatively easily without me having to spend a lot of time on it. This leads to satisfaction on both sides: I was able to help the customer and the customer can continue working on their project straight away. Customers come to us with very different levels of knowledge; some have been working with our products for a very long time and know exactly what they need. Others, on the other hand, are new to wood and metalworking and need broader advice. Regardless of which type of customer comes to me, I always adapt to the person I'm talking to. This is particularly easy for me when advising customers in our specialist shop in Neu-Ulm. Direct and personal contact often makes communication easier, also because the customer can see our products live on site and test them for their own purposes.
Thank you, Jannis, for the interesting interview and the insights into your day-to-day work at paulimot.
