Correct use of scriber needles - you should pay attention to this.
Scriberneedles are among the most commonly used marking tools. A scriber can be used to transfer shapes or lines from a drawing to the workpiece. Scriber needles are usually made of steel or carbide.
Observe the points described below to create precise lines on the workpiece.
Selecting the right scriber
Most scriber needles are made of carbide, as these are harder than the raw part to be marked, making it easier to create scribe lines. There are different versions of scriber needles.
With scriber needles in the form of a mechanical pencil, you can simply replace the worn or blunt tip with a new, sharp replacement tip.
To be able to score in hard-to-reach places, you can use scriber needles with a curved tip, for example.
Brass scriber needles are suitable for materials such as plastic, wood or PVC materials where a shallow scribe line is sufficient. This type of scriber is also used for spark-free scribing.

Correct scribing - avoid mistakes
Pay attention to the following points to avoid errors when scribing:
- Make sure that the scribing needle is pointed.
- When scribing, only apply enough force to create a slight score line on the surface. Avoid scoring lines that are too deep.
- Guide the scriber with even pressure.
- Guide the tip of the scriber along the lower edge of the ruler or stop bracket.
- Pull the score line instead of "pushing" it.
Using aids
To make the score lines more visible, you can apply a layer of marking paint to the surface of the workpiece before marking. You can use scribing paint from a bottle or a coloured scribing pen. The contrast medium makes even the finest scribing lines and drill points on metal surfaces recognisable. After creating the score lines, you can remove the colour with a suitable cleaner or solvent spray (e.g. Diamant orange oil cleaner or Diamant solvent spray).
Make sure that the workpiece is lying on a flat surface so that it has a good grip when scribing. It is therefore recommended that scribing work is always carried out on a scribing plate (also known as a levelling plate). Grinding or scraping these plates creates a very flat surface, which acts as a base for optimum stability when scribing.
