Intended use
Glass scale measuring systems are mainly used on machine tools, such as lathes or milling machines. In addition to the versatile functions of a measuring system, it is used to display the actual position of a workpiece or tool in a coordinate system.

Description of the
This position measuring system retrofit kit with LCD screen is designed for the travel ranges of the PM5000 lathe or similarly dimensioned machines and is intended for retrofitting. The set consists of the SDS 200 position indicator, the holder for the position indicator, a 120 mm measuring range glass scale, a 220 mm measuring range glass scale and a 1,000 measuring range glass scale.
Depending on the machine model, various shims may be required for mounting the glass scales and sensors. These are not included in the scope of delivery and must be made yourself if required.
The distance measuring system is characterised by its extensive range of functions and display options. Selected functions are shown graphically on the display for better understanding. The position display offers the option of choosing between turning, milling or grinding mode. The languages available are German, English, Spanish, French and Chinese.
The following functions are available in turning mode:
- Cone turning
- Tool correction
- The travel distance in the X-axis can be displayed either in diameter or in radius.
- It is possible to display Z and Z0 combined, i.e. the travel of the bed slide and the travel of the top slide are displayed together.
The following functions are available in milling mode:
- Inclined contour / surface: Milling of phases or diagonal surfaces
- Drill any number of holes evenly spaced along a straight line (SHL function)
- Milling a radius or circular arc
- Display of a hole circle for evenly placed holes on an arc of a circle
- Determining the centre point between two points
The values can be displayed in mm or inches in all operating modes. It is possible to change the sign when displaying the individual axes. A standby mode can be activated on the position display. The display brightness, date, time and acoustic signals can be set. A calculator function with memory is also available.
