Frank Schlögel
Frank, you head up the Technology and Logistics and Technical Sales and Customer Support teams at paulimot. What are your responsibilities?
The tasks in my two teams are, as their names suggest, very different. This means that employees with very different qualifications and areas of responsibility work together in these teams. The Technology and Logistics team is responsible for the entire process in our warehouse, i.e. receiving and storing goods, quality inspection, picking customer orders and dispatching goods. The machines we sell are individually subjected to a detailed quality control and for some models we also carry out attachments, for example motors from German production or frequency converters from Austrian production. This assembly work is also carried out by the Technical and Logistics team. The Technical Sales and Customer Support team is responsible for customer support in the technical area. This primarily includes advising our customers - by telephone, e-mail and in our specialist shop in Neu-Ulm. And even if a customer has questions after a purchase, if a complaint arises or a customer wants to order a spare part, the Technical Sales and Customer Support team is always on hand. While I used to do all these tasks myself, my role is now more of a coordinator. Another exciting task for me is product management. I will be stepping up my efforts in this area in future and, together with our Managing Directors Simone Paulitschek and Dr Patrick Paulitschek and our company founder Wilhelm Paulitschek, will ensure that we can constantly offer our customers interesting new products. Last but not least, I still maintain a lot of customer contact - be it in our specialist shop or with great enthusiasm every year at the "Faszination Modellbau" trade fair in Friedrichshafen.
What do you find particularly appealing about dealing with our customers?
For example, it makes me happy when customers come into our specialist shop and are impressed by the way we exhibit and present our products here. Although our main sales channel is online retail, it's important to us to also be available in person in Neu-Ulm and to offer the opportunity to view and buy our entire range on site. When customers are pleased with the personalised advice and leave the shop with the good feeling of having found a competent contact person, I also take this positive feeling with me. At this point, I would also like to mention that our customers are very friendly and easy to talk to, which I really appreciate.
You've been with the company since 2011 and deal with our products every day. Can you name an item from our range that is particularly close to your heart?
That's not easy to answer. I was involved in the design of many products and have followed their development from the very beginning. I naturally have a special connection to these products and am delighted when they develop into a successful part of our range and are also well received by our customers. However, if I had to choose a particular product, I would go for the F207-V drilling and routing machine. I was also involved with this machine right from the start and it reminds me of my beginnings here at the company. Back then, I tinkered and tinkered with the machine myself until we finally developed it to our satisfaction and incorporated many great features that still set it apart from the competition today.
In addition to your role as head of the technical teams, you are also a sought-after contact for the areas of order processing and customer support as well as e-commerce and marketing. As you frequently deal with almost the entire workforce: How would you describe the working atmosphere in the company?
I would describe the atmosphere here at the company as exceptionally informal. There are flat hierarchies, which I personally find very positive. However, this only works because each individual employee knows what their tasks are and carries them out with the company as a whole in mind. There is no narrow-minded, self-centred view, but everyone works together as a team. I always compare it to clockwork: all the cogwheels, whether small or large, are equally important and have to work together to fulfil their task and ensure that everything runs smoothly. In my opinion, treating each other with respect, whether as a team of colleagues or between managers and employees, is the key to a very pleasant working atmosphere at paulimot and our company's success as a whole. Every new employee who joins the company internalises this philosophy very quickly and becomes part of our paulimot family.
You just mentioned new employees. What do they need to bring with them to work in the areas of technology and logistics or technical sales and customer support?
In general, potential employees need to be stress-resistant and flexible. Firstly, no two days are the same with the wide variety of tasks and you have to constantly adapt to new challenges. Secondly, the months from November to February are a real peak season, as our customers are particularly keen to use their garages during the cold season. In addition, expertise in the respective area is of course an important criterion. The requirements for logistics are different to those for technicians or technical sales. As I said, the requirements vary depending on the area of activity, but one thing is equally important in all areas: a sense of humour and fun at work!
You have experienced a lot in your more than ten years at paulimot. How do you see the company developing during this time and in the future?
Even before I started at paulimot, I knew the company through my wife Simone Paulitschek. I think that the company has undergone rapid development in recent years. All teams have grown considerably in terms of personnel and I don't really see any upper limit at the moment, especially as our new building will create the spatial conditions for further growth. In parallel with the number of employees, our product range is naturally also growing. We can position ourselves more and more broadly and add new product lines. To summarise, I can say that I am very positive about the future development of the company and look forward to all the challenges that lie ahead for the paulimot team.
Thank you very much, Frank, for the interview and the many interesting insights into your day-to-day work and the development of the company.
