Trademark at paulimot: Starts every working day with a meat loaf roll
Jermaine
Jermaine, when did you join paulimot and which team do you work in?
I started working at paulimot on a part-time basis in March 2020. I help my colleagues Ulrich Muck and Michael Johnson from the Technology and Logistics team on an hourly basis, usually in the mornings, with all the work that needs to be done.
What do you do alongside your work at paulimot?
I'm currently in the third year of my apprenticeship as a sports and fitness merchant. Due to the situation with Covid-19 since spring 2020 and the associated closure of the gyms, I've had a lot of free time. My father Michael Johnson, who works as a technician at paulimot, asked me if I would like to support the technology and logistics team on an hourly basis due to the increased order volume. I liked the work straight away, I quickly got to grips with the team and I also benefited from the flexible working hours.
What exactly are your tasks at paulimot?
First and foremost, I help the technicians to clean and check the machines intended for sale and prepare them for dispatch. All of our lathes and milling machines are subjected to this process before delivery to the customer, so that we can ensure that our customers only receive clean and perfectly functioning machines. We do this work on height-adjustable tables on which we set up the machines. This makes the work much easier and saves us a lot of time. In addition to these tasks, I help my colleagues in the logistics department with order picking when there is a staff shortage. Due to the growth of the company, the number of parcels and machines that we dispatch every day is increasing. There is therefore always a lot to do and I provide support wherever I can.
You work a lot with our lathes and milling machines. Do you have a favourite machine?
My favourite machine from our range is definitely the PM5000 lathe. It's the largest machine in our range and I'm always happy when I can open it up and take a closer look inside. I really like the high-quality workmanship of the machine and all its components. After I've cleaned and checked the machine, it looks beautiful and is ready to go on its journey to the customer.
How do you feel about the atmosphere in your team?
From the very first day at paulimot, I was given a warm welcome and the atmosphere among my colleagues and with the team leader Frank Schlögel is very informal. I felt at home in the team right from the start. I naturally want to do everything right at work, get involved and am also interested in how the machine despatch has gone on days when I'm not on site. Of course, it's very practical that I can chat to my father after work. At the same time, I always have the feeling that I can ask questions if I'm not sure about a task and I always get support from my colleagues.
Thank you, Jermaine, for the interview and the many interesting insights into your day-to-day work at paulimot.
