Ideas for homemade Christmas decorations with Forstner bits

Forstner bits are often used in woodworking, as they can be used to drill clean and dimensionally accurate holes. The centring tip allows precise holes to be drilled into the wood. This is why Forstner bits are also suitable for creating customised DIY projects for Christmas decorations.

As conventional tea lights have a diameter of around 39 mm, a Forstner bit with a diameter of 40 mm can be used to easily drill recesses into the wood. With a little creativity, you can create beautiful ideas for your next Christmas decoration. We have used larch as the type of wood for our projects. However, the wood of cherry trees is also particularly suitable for a beautiful grain.

Idea 1

"Forest" tealight holder

A wooden board is used as the basis for this decoration. Two indentations are then made with the Forstner bit to give the tealights a better hold on the wood. Finally, the piece of wood is decorated with Christmas decorations.

Idea 2

"Wooden trunk" tea light holder

A wooden trunk is used as the base for this Christmas decoration. The two tea lights can then be placed in the wood by drilling two holes. The bark of the log is then decorated with different coloured wooden snowflakes.

"Wooden trunk with glasses" tea light holder

Drill three holes of different depths in the wooden trunk using a Forstner bit. The narrow glasses are then covered with moss and narrow candles. Finally, the glasses are positioned in the wood and the rest of the log is decorated.
