Scriber needle - small but nice

Builder: Peter Ruff
Creation time of the model: 1 hour
Difficulty level: Beginner
A scriber lies horizontally on a light-coloured surface. It has a silver ferrule, gold end pieces and a fine, pointed metal pin.

The project

A small and fine scriber was produced on the SIEG C2 lathe.

Tool / material used

  • aluminium
  • bronze
  • Old 3 mm drill bit
  • Lathe SIEG C2
  • Polishing machine

Making a scriber

The tip of the scriber is made from an old, sharpened 3 mm metal drill bit. The shaft of the scriber was made from an 8 mm aluminium tube and a piece of bronze round material. This was first turned to a diameter of 8 mm on the lathe. The ends of the bronze parts were turned slightly larger than the inner diameter of the aluminium tube. The tip was then press-fitted into the shaft. The shaft was treated on the lathe with fine emery cloth and then on a polishing machine to achieve a beautiful and even surface. Using a buffing disc and green polishing paste, the scriber was given an even better high gloss.
