Spray can holder

Builder: Fridolin Messerer
Creation time of the model: approx. 2 hours
Total costs: approx. 20€
Level of difficulty: Advanced
A red holder with six spray cans of different colours and sizes. The cans are lined up in a row. "FR ME 2022" is written in small letters on the holder. The wall behind it is white.

The project

A small storage shelf was built from a sheet of metal that is suitable for spray cans and other items in the workshop. The shelf consists of a single piece of sheet metal, which was folded into a wall bracket using only the bending process and no other techniques.

Tools / material used

Step 1

Transfer the pattern

Firstly, the pattern including the bending lines was drawn onto the sheet using a square, ruler and marker. A depth and height of 70 mm were chosen for the holder, as this corresponds to the diameter of a spray can. The length of the shelf should be a multiple of 70 mm. The overhang is also 15 mm.

The holes were then drilled and the contour cut out. A drill bit with a diameter of 4 to 5 mm was chosen for the holes so that standard screws could be used later for fastening.

A silver-coloured pattern blank with red lines and numbered circles lies on a workbench. The blank is flat and rectangular with ends prepared for folding.
Step 2

Bevelling

The exact sequence should be observed when folding. The first fold is folded through 180°. It is advisable to bend the sheet as far as the folding bench will allow. The rest was then bent over with a soft rubber mallet to create a reinforced, rounded edge.

The next step was to bend the remaining bends. It is important to turn the sheet once at bending line 4 so that it can be bent in the other direction.

Close-up of a folding bench: A grey metal part fastened with three screws lies on a red background. A metal angle profile is visible.
A green hammer lies on a piece of metal placed on a workbench. The metal has a bent edge. Red markings are visible on the metal.
A green rubber mallet lies on a piece of metal with red lines and the number 9. The edge of the metal is bent over. There is a work surface in the background.
Metal plate with reinforced edges and red marking line on a rough, grey surface. Numbers in red circles. Number 4 in the lower right corner.
Sheet metal with a curved edge lies on a red folding bench. Six screw heads on silver plate above.
Metal bending machine with clamped, bent sheet metal. The machine is painted red, the sheet metal is silver. Four screws hold the upper plate.
Step 3

Finished holder

Finally, the holder for the spray cans was painted. Of course, the dimensions of the small shelf can be freely selected so that it can also be used for other utensils.

Rectangular, metal-coloured holder made of sheet metal. Several small holes can be seen along the lower edge. The holder stands on a rough surface.
A silver, rectangular holder lies on a workbench. The holder is made of metal and has feet on the sides.
A red holder on a wall, filled with spray cans in various colours and lettering, including WD-40 and Molotow Artist. "FR ME 2022" can be read on the holder.
