Steffi, you have been working as an e-commerce specialist at paulimot since October 2017. How did you join the company and what attracted you to the position?
It was a happy coincidence. I had applied for a job advert in the commercial area at paulimot with my training in tourism, as I wanted to reorientate myself professionally. Although this position was filled elsewhere, our Managing Director Dr Patrick Paulitschek offered me a job in e-commerce and introduced me to my possible future areas of responsibility. The variety of tasks and the opportunity to support the company in the online sales of our products in the online shop and on the online marketplaces appealed to me. I also found the atmosphere at my interview and my trial working day very pleasant. I could therefore well imagine spending my working day at paulimot and building up or expanding my knowledge in this area. My impression at the time wasn't wrong, I really appreciate the family atmosphere at paulimot as an employer and the fact that we always meet as equals. I am also allowed to contribute my own ideas and have the feeling that I am not just there, but can also make a difference.
What are the tasks of an e-commerce specialist at paulimot and which of these tasks do you enjoy the most?
The tasks of an e-commerce specialist at paulimot include listing and managing our products in our online shop and on the online marketplaces where we also offer our products. This includes creating and editing product images, entering product descriptions and product data into the PIM system and uploading the product to the respective platform. My tasks as an e-commerce specialist also include carrying out competitor research and market analyses, creating flyers and advertising material for trade fairs and advertising campaigns and constantly improving our online shop. I can't say exactly what I enjoy most. It's mainly the variety of tasks that makes the work interesting for me every day.
In October 2019, you dedicated yourself to a completely new project, your little daughter. Now you've been back for a few weeks and are supporting your team on an hourly basis. What do you think has changed in the company and in your team during this time?
A number of new employees have joined the company and I first need to get to know them. There have also been some changes in my own e-commerce and marketing team in particular during my absence. When I started at paulimot in 2017, one colleague and I were responsible for the entire area. In 2019, Robin joined us as an e-commerce trainee and in November 2019, when I went on maternity leave followed by parental leave, Matthias joined the team as an e-commerce specialist. Finally, we were able to welcome Clara as another e-commerce trainee. So there was a big increase in our team alone. But the company in general is also in the middle of a major expansion phase. Before my parental leave, all employees worked together in one building, so all teams were very close to each other. We now have two company buildings, which are to be connected by a new building that is currently under construction. My team moved into the second building at the beginning of 2020, so since my return I have not only been able to work with new team members, but also in newly furnished premises.
What do your tasks look like now and what do you hope to achieve in the coming months?
As I am currently supporting my team on an hourly basis, my tasks are limited to selected small projects that I can easily work on from home. As I have a long journey to Neu-Ulm, I can currently work from home. Working from home also allows me to be there for my daughter. After my parental leave, I would like to return to the company so that I can interact with my team and the other teams on site again and take on larger projects.
Thank you very much, Steffi, for the interview and the many interesting insights into your everyday working life at paulimot.
