Die holder with PM5000

Builder: Klaus Zenkert
Metal lathe with knurled grip surface. The tool is clamped. A scale with units of measurement is visible.

The project

As no die holder was available for the "Akon holder" for taps in MK3, the missing die holder for the taps was made by the customer.

Tool used

Procedure

Step 1

Preparation

Firstly, a shaft with a diameter of 60 mm was over-turned to 59 mm.

Lathe in action: A cylindrical workpiece is being machined, chips are flying. Coolant is supplied. A grey machine wall in the background.
Three cylindrical metal rods and a technical plan lie on a wooden surface. The rods are of different lengths.
Step 2

Turn the contour of the holder

The next step was to turn the contour of the holder and drill the inner hole.

Step 3

Drill out the hole

The hole for the MK3 arbor was turned out and the holder was cut off.

A lathe machines a metal workpiece. The workpiece is clamped in a chuck. A tool is cutting chips. Metal chips lie around the workpiece.
A cylindrical metal object, which tapers upwards and has an opening, stands on a workbench. In the background is a machine part with a black handle.
A cylindrical, metallic workpiece lies on a workbench in front of a milling machine. The workpiece has different diameters and a flattened side.
Step 4

Turn out the holder

In the next step, the inside diameter for the tap holder (M12) was turned out.

Close-up of a lathe. A cylindrical workpiece is clamped, it has a large round surface with openings and a smaller cylindrical extension. The machine is red in colour.
Step 5

Create thread

The five M5 threads for attaching the thread cutting die were created on the dividing head and a spanner width was milled.

A lathe with a silver, cylindrical workpiece is clamped. The drilling head is positioned above the workpiece.
Metal part in a lathe. A drill is machining the part, shavings are lying around.
Metallic tap with four holes in a circular head, attached to a cylindrical shank. The holes are arranged in a cross shape.
A lathe is machining a cylindrical piece of metal. Chips are lying around. The tool is in position and is being used to shape the metal.
Step 6

Knurling the grip surface

Finally, the grip surface was knurled.
